I wrote this when I was sort of senti. Anyways.. the ending changes..
Now here is a thing about friendship, this ship sinks when manhood kicks in and I wonder who and why friendship even does exist when friends move along. We been best friends since class XI: me, lalit, Don, Orro, Deku and Banka. I got to know Tempa later and he is the most coolest guy in the group. Passang however cam in class XII but that guy did cope up fast and we became best friends.
But now, all of us are graduates and with graduation comes job and unemployment. Some of us are employed and some of us are not. I lost my nine months and have no fixed job. But Passang leave tomorrow for Gyelposhing, for his job with 45k salary. Yes, Engineers are paid well. And now Passang has a girlfriend and has missed most of the gatherings, girl friend isn’t the main reason, he however doesn’t drink and smoke anymore. But there were days when the knight rode his horse with his sword and shield.
But he leaves tomorrow and my days are nearing as well. We however will no more hang out like we used to during our high school days. Three years down the line, I see most of us getting married or having kids or simply being busy with our jobs. So, with utmost desperation, I called him and It was sad to know that we would have no gathering: nobody called him. Flat broke and limited balance in phone, I called Lalit and he said that he would come bid him farewell. Sounded reasonable. Now I don’t detest my friends or hate them, but at times, I do get pissed. So Lalit showed up with Jigme and Tempa. By that time, I already was done with two pecks of Courier. When Passang showed up, Don was with him. Then we hit Tshomo’s Bar and drank for a bit. We got slightly high and came out. Now I kiss people when I am drunk. But kissing is fine. I have done the worst! No, I didn’t give anybody hand job or any of the jobs. So, hugged Passang and kissed him on the cheek. I do that. Not gay, but gayism is there lol. Said good bye. In turn, yeah got the comment! Gay!
But when I walked towards Jigme’s car, I saw a dude sitting in a shitting position. He had unzipped his trousers and was he ready for corn hole? Yes, the only thing missing was one liter of water bottle. A normal scene early mornings in India. But it was middle of the night and that boy was cool. When others saw it, nobody wanted to provoke the shitting panther and got into the car. Now we talk too much in hindi: me, jigme and Lalit. So jigme went like this, “Band chod! Yeh Kya kaar raha hai?”
I said, “bey Haat ja!” Jigme turned his head lights on! That boy just gave no damn. He was wasted too. We laughed. “Yeh madhar chod sala hagga mar ra ha hai!” I said and we all laughed. Nobody or nothing could match his feelings of pleasure that time. But anyhow, that was something that made all of us happy for next 30 minutes. We went home after that. But we joked a lot about him, said he was ‘Ba tak ta atma!’
Next day passang would leave. One friend less and ample of memories to cherish. We are no starting to live, facing our problems ourselves. Facing the world. We have emerged from our cocoons and am not sure how many of us will turn into butterflies and how many of us, will stay just the way we are: MOTHS!
